It can feel a little scary to update VMware workstation from one version (of the same main version) to another. When you start the installation process, the installation wizard wants to uninstall your current installation of VMware and you might wonder what's going to happen with your current running virtual machines.
Don't worry. Your current virtual machines won't be removed but staying as is. Here is the update process.
Update VMware workstation
- Shut down all your VMs by choosing VM -> Power -> Shut down guest.
- Download the update from VMware's website (the whole new version)

Start the installation

The current installation will be removed but your VMs will remain as is (at least if they are located outside the VMware folder which they should be) - All your current settings for the VMs will remain as is.
- Windows asks you to restart the system a few times, typically twice.

- When the installation process is done, simply restart your VMs and your done!
Don't worry, just update your VMware installation to the latest version!
